We are delighted to help families celebrate their Weddings and Baptisms. For more details see below, or do get in touch with any queries you may have.

Weddings

Couples wishing to explore the possibility of being married at St Nicolas’ should phone the Parish Office (01235 520144) for an appointment on one of the “Clergy Consultation” sessions to discuss this with one of the clergy. These appointments usually take place between 7-8pm on Wednesday evenings.

If arrangements for the wedding are then to be made, couples are given administrative details, and asked to book in for our Marriage Preparation Course, which consists of 3 Wednesday evening meetings. The church, in its commitment to the support of couples coming to be married, consider these evenings to be essential. The course is not intended to tell couples how their marriage should be, but rather to help them explore important issues together.

Baptism

Baptism, or ‘Christening’ as it is sometimes called, is the sacrament by which a person becomes a member of Christ’s mystical Body, the Church. It is the sacrament of entrance into the common life of the Church.

Baptism can take place in the context of a Sunday service, or at a private Ceremony.

Those who desire baptism either for themselves or for their children are expected to share in a pattern of preparation for Baptism, which takes the form of two evening sessions in which the meaning of Baptism and its responsibilities are explored. In the first instance contact should be made with the Parish Office (01235 520144) to book a place, and discuss dates.

Parents who have had one child baptised at St Nicolas’s and wish to have another child baptized do not need to book in for preparation again. However, a discussion with one of the clergy is required, and should be booked through the Parish Office.
